MiniHawk Hybrid Anamorphic Primes. Vantage produced the MiniHawk lenses as the first set of Spherical Prime lenses that can be considered “Hybrid” in nature. They feature an oval iris design to emulate anamorphic oval bokeh while still using spherical optics. Due to this hybrid design the focal lengths printed on each lens are anamorphic Hawk Anamorphic® V-Lite 28 mm T2.2 Depth of Field Metric. 2x Aperture T2.2 T2.8 T4 T5.6 T8 T11 T16 Hyperfocal Distance 19.17 16.13 11.28 8.07 5.65 4.10 2.82 Focus Hawk 65 Anamorphic Lenses Hawk 65 Anamorphic Lenses Sony Alpha a7S II Mirrorless. For the Alpha a7S there is not much to add. The camera revolving around a full-frame 12.2MP CMOS sensor, and capable of internal UHD 4K recording at 30 fps with full pixel readout as well as 1080p recording at up to 120 fps, all in the XAVC S format. Hawk V-Lite 35mm and Panavision C-Series 35mm, barrel distortion comparison. Photographed at the same stop and distance. From the test we can see that the C-series lens suffers much less barel distortion than the hawk. This is in part due to the different designs of the lenses. This is explained in more detail in the next post.
We used these old Hawk [V Lite Anamorphic] lenses and it started with our wonderful cinematographer, Joshua Reis, who’s absolutely brilliant. We worked hand-in-hand to create different color palette looks and imagery is that where defining of the movie we were trying to make.
The lady with the candelier in background was filmed with a Hawk V‑Lite 55mm at T2.2 on an ARRICAM ST, 3 perf camera (24mm x 13.5mm gate). The oval bokehs are apparent; the big surprise is how similar they look to the out-of-focus highlights of a 2x anamorphic lens. (Film and Digital Times)
Digital Anamorphic: Shot with the Alexa SXT equipped with Hawk V-Lite 1.3x Anamorphic Lenses at a resolution of 2.8K and 3.4K. Rest of the film shown in 1.85:1 36.

It’s five in the morning and I’m starting to shiver. The thermometer hovers at 10 degrees but it feels like it’s negative 20 with the wind. On any other night I’d be eagerly waiting for the sun to rise and warm the night air but, tonight, the sun spells my certain doom.

Hawk V‑Lite Anamorphics. Hawk V‑Lite 2x anamorphic lenses deliver the unique look and reliability of Hawk anamorphic glass in a smaller package. The combination of their optical characteristics, robustness, user-friendliness, range of focal lengths and surprisingly small size – smaller than many commonly used spherical primes – has made .
